Light it Up {decor}

11.07.2014

If I'm honest, choosing lighting/lamps for home decor is hard for me.  Almost so hard that it's annoying... because I'm extremely picky (just ask my husband;).  There are so many fun and and different style lamps out there, and I think picking out the "right" one is important to the ambiance of the home!

Wayfair has just about any style you could look for - modern, traditional, contemporary, rustic.  I'm more of a contemporary gal myself.. a good mix between modern and traditional.  They're a fun way to add pops of color to a room as well.. here are some of my favorite lamps from Wayfair..

If you're in the market for some new lighting in your home, I highly suggest searching around on Wayfair first.  They have a great selection, with so many different style.. and they are providing my reader a 15% off promo code for lamps, which is valid 11/6 through 11/10.  Just enter the code WFLAMPS15.  Happy shopping!  :)

This post is sponsored by Wayfair, but all opinions are 100% my own.  :)

The Nursery.. Practically Done!

5.25.2011

This post will probably be a bit photo heavy.  Everything is ready for baby girl to be here.. the only thing I have left to do in the nursery is dust and vacuum.  Oh, and I do need to get a bumper for the crib.. but she will be sleeping in our room for a while, so I'm not worried about that quite yet.  I'm also waiting for prints I ordered from our maternity shoot so I can put a few up in her room with the rest of the frames on the wall.  :)  Here are some pictures of the room that's awaiting her arrival...

The lamp we had made here in Korea for her:)

Those books were some of my favorites when I was little.. :)  I think the nursery has come along well... especially since it looked like this not too long ago....

That's it!  Of course, I'll probably be adding a few things here and there after she arrives just because I'm always seeing things that I want to make or add on!  ;)  Especially more frames on the wall above her crib - I feel it needs more, for sure.  If I end up adding more things, I'll be sure to post them.

Yarn Puffs & Cute Stuffed Animals!

4.18.2011

I made these cute little yarn puffs the other day with some leftover yarn that I had - what a good way to use up odds and ends!  I absolutely adore them.  They remind of those dandelion puffs, you know, the white ones you used to blow as a kid.  I also had an old glass vase sitting around, and I decided to spray paint it white (spray paint is one of my good friends:).  A little bouquet of colorful yarn puffs... they are a lovely addition to the nursery!  And cost absolutely nothing for me to make since I had everything on hand already.  Love those kind of projects!

And the other day when my husband and I were at E-Mart (a store here in Korea) picking up a side table/book shelf, we saw some super fun stuffed animals.  I fell in love with the owl.  :)

I will show more pictures of these things in their respective places in the nursery once it's completely finished.  My husband is gone on a TDY this week, so I'm going to try to have all the picture frames, etc, ready to hang so we can get those things up on the walls once he gets back.  And... our maternity photoshoot is this Saturday!  SO excited!  The forecast is rain, but we're praying it holds off... at least for the photoshoot!  :)

Just Some Baby Things

4.16.2011

Things are getting done here and there in the nursery - not much longer to go!  I still have a few more projects I want to work on for the decor.  The other day I made a few puff balls...

They're super cute, so I'm excited to get them hung up.  I'll take a better picture when hubby gets them up.  :)  I think today we may also go pick up a small bookshelf to serve as storage/nightstand for her lamp.  I also need to find some wicker baskets, but I haven't been satisfied with what I've seen around here so I may just have to order online.

And the other day I picked up some more cute clothes (and I'm now cut off from hubby... haha.. he said no more!).  I bought 20 outfits, socks, and a cute little pair of shoes for $20.  Can't beat that!  Her closet is pretty full...

Once the closet is completely finished, I'll take a full view shot of it.  Those dividers I made are coming in very handy, by the way.  I'm just LOVING them!

And how can you not love these sweet dresses that I bought just $2 each..

And teeny-tiny shoes...  I can't wait to see the cute little feet that fill them.  :)

Well, I'm headin' out to spend this beautiful spring day with my husband.  Not sure what we're going to do yet, but I can assure you we will be enjoying this weather.  Maybe some lunch, too!

Nursery: Baby Closet Dividers

4.05.2011

I've been working on this project for about the past week.  It probably would have only taken me a day or so, but I never seem to have enough time to finish something in one sitting.  Ah, well.  I'm very pleased with how they turned out!  I got the idea from a few different websites.  Here, here, and here is where I came across them.  They're super easy and a cute way to divide up the baby's clothes so the sizes are easier to find.

I bought the wooden door hangers from Hobby Lobby for just .99 cents.  Then I sanded then down so they were nice and smooth, and primed them with some white paint.  Then just painted them with some acrylic paints and hand-painted on the sizes.  Then I bought some cute scrapbook paper and traced out some little girly outfits and mod-modged them onto the hangers.  I also mod-podged the whole thing so it gave it a sealed, glossy look.  I used some ribbon to tie them to the rod in the closet, since we can't remove it.  I like that they're facing forward instead of to the side, anyway.

A closer look at a couple of them..

Now I just need to get some baby hangers so I can hang all of her clothes up.  She has quite the wardrobe going already!  Sometimes I'll just go in there to go through them and at how adorable they are.  :)  There are a few other things I need to get to organize the closet, too.  Everything is coming along nicely!

And then some of of her other clothes and things I need to get hangers and wicker baskets for...

We're getting more and more excited every day.  I constantly wonder what she's going to look like, what color eyes will she have.. blue like her daddy or green like her mommy?  Or what outfit I want to bring her home in.  And I can't even describe the feeling of when she's rolling around in my belly.  It's the best, most comforting feeling in the world.  This whole pregnancy thing is pretty wonderful.  :)

Nursery: No-Sew Custom Crib Skirt

3.19.2011

So I decided to make our baby girl's crib skirt out of the same material I used for the curtains.  And I think it turned out very nicely!

I followed a tutorial I found at an awesome website called Young House Love.  I won't waste my time writing it out for you -- you can just go check out that tutorial yourself if you're interested.  Actually you should just go check out that website anyways, it's awesome!  And I totally want their living room.  Just sayin'.

The material for the curtains & crib skirt only cost me about $18.  I used 2 rolls of heavy duty hem tape, which cost about $1.50 per roll, and a little bit of velcro.  So all in all, I spent roughly $21.00.  I'm pretty sure I saved us some money!  Wahoo!  Not only that, but I think they look 100x better than anything I could just go out and buy, because I was able to make them exactly how I wanted them (I didn't really want anything with animals all over it, and I didn't see anything else that caught my eye).  I think that deserves an iced white chocolate mocha from Starbucks... right?  I thought so too.

Here are a couple photos.  One is without the flash, and one is with the flash.. because, once again, the lighting in there just awesome.  Not.

The crib sheet is actually a really light pink, if you can't tell from the photos.  It's from Target, and it's so soft... I need to get a few more!  The crib is coming along nicely, I think!  The nursery is definitely starting to look like a nursery.  :)

Nursery: Easy No-Sew Curtains

3.13.2011

This past weekend I was able to get the curtains finished for our baby girls' nursery.  I love these curtains because they are so simple!  Anyone can do them (as long as you know how to use an iron... which I hope you do).  Making them is so much more fun than just going out and buying curtains, imo, because you get to pick out exactly what you want.

For these, all I needed was a fabric of my choice (after I measured my window for exactly what I needed, adding on 1 inch on the top and bottom for the hem), scissors, iron on hem tape, and an iron.  Totally simple, right?  Hem all the way around your fabric, and wah-la, you have curtains!

I chose this beautiful deep pink fabric and it compliments the light blue walls SO well!  The fabric is light and breezy - I wasn't concerned about them being thick and room darkening because this particular room in our apartment gets practically no natural light because it's in the very corner of the building (it doesn't help that it was cloudy out when I took these photos!).  Which is why some of the pictures are so off.. sorry about that.. hard to take a good picture with my camera without any natural light!  My flash made the blue walls look a little more of a bright blue than they actually are.

I used 2 packs of clip-on curtain rings to hold the curtain to the rod, and it gives the curtains that folded effect at the top, which I love.  And they're long and flowy.

Again, these are SO EASY.  Absolutely anyone can do this.  In fact, I may even whip some up for the master bedroom.  :)  Next up on my nursery to-do list is the crib skirt.  It's going to be another no-sew project!

EDIT:  Wanted to add a better picture of the wall/curtain color combo.  While the quality is still eh, this picture gives you a better idea of the actual colors.  :)

Nursery: Paint Walls... check!

3.06.2011

We are finally making a little more progress on the nursery.  This past week we chose a color to paint the walls.  We wanted to stick with the theme that I had previously thought about, so it wasn't too difficult.  I mean, it shouldn't be, right?  I knew I wanted a lighter blue color.  Well there are way too many 'light blue colors' to choose from.  Like, waaay too many for an indecisive person like me.  So my husband helped me out and I'm super pleased with our choice!

It's perfect.  If we would have gone any darker, it would have been just too dark.  It will work really well with the plans I have for the curtains.  Oh I'm so excited to work on those next weekend!  Everything is coming together nicely.  We only painted two walls, because we will have to paint it back before we move next year (ah, life of living in rentals..) and we wanted our baby to have a beautiful nursery, but keep the work to a minimum.

I accidentally gave myself a few blue hair highlights as well.. whoops!  You can see them in the picture;)

I'm so happy with the way it turned out (excuse the streaks in the background.. it's still drying!).  My hubby did all the back-breaking work, of course.  And for all his hard work (and because he has a long work week ahead of him) we are going to one of our favorite Brazilian steakhouse restaurants tonight... Ceia!  He's pretty excited.  And I am too because my favorite part is their slow cooked pineapple glazed with cinnamon and sugar.  To. Die. For.

This week is going to be a busy week for us, but we will definitely make more progress on the nursery by the weekend.  Keep checking back to see us get our nursery ready for our baby girl, one thing at a time.  :)
